The Sounds of Silence

Image
Today as I sit at the lake and listen to the birds chirp, the animals scurrying through the underbrush and the wind in the trees I find myself struggling to focus on the present moment.   As I near the end of my six weeks surrounded by nature away from the noise of the city, the TV, the radio and the neighbors I find myself anxious each time I shift awareness towards my return to the city. Then this morning my friends and I must have been in harmony as all of us were thinking about the sounds of silence and the healing power they can provide.  First, my friend Jenny McFadden from Australia shared a lovely meditation. The Great Bell Chant ( available online ) consists of a wonderful video, chanting and the words of Thich Nhat Hanh. Then Kelli Spencer posted  “ Okay, long story short...a friend posted the lyrics to a song that prompted me to look for it on YouTube where I came across the song The Sound of Silence . And now, you're asking for me to get to the point..

Who is in Charge You or Your Mind?

The hummingbird is sacred to native peoples throughout the Americas and they celebrate it as  a symbol of embodying tireless joy and the ability to drink deep of the sweet nectar of life.   What a wonderful description of living a mindful life. Mindfulness is the cultivation of focused awareness on the present moment.   It is a tireless sense of joy of life and all it has to offer.   When you are mindful you let go of the past, you aren’t worrying about the future you are consciously in control of your mind and focused on the present.   It is the present of the NOW!   JWT Worldwide, one of the world’s largest marketing communications brands, named mindful living as one of the top 10 trends that will shape the world in 2014 and beyond. Google offers its employees a program called Search Inside Yourself – developed by Chade-Menge Tan.   The program has been shown to build compassion which is beneficial to individuals, their communities and the corporate bottom line.   I on

Full Disclosure - Blog Relay

Image
As a track coach in Junction City I learned that the precision of passing the baton in a relay race is often the difference between winning or losing the race. Watching the young women practice the handoff taught me the value of team work and the art of relying on your team mates. I often rely on my friends to provide insight and support as I travel my race through this earthly journey. When Kelli Spencer asked me to be part of a blogging relay I immediately said “Yes!” For me it was an opportunity to be part of a team and to pass the baton onto others. Kelli is an amazing individual who taps into nature, angels and people to help others restore their natural state of well-being. I met her through a mutual friend, Twyla as we participated in a book club for several years. Today Kelli has her own blog www.lovethelifeyouhave.com ; she is working on a book and enjoying ever minute of her home in the country. I turn to her blog when I find myself asking “What the heck is go

Become a Dream Builder

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” Albert Einstein Imagineering is the process of putting creative ideas into action. The word blends the concepts of imagining and engineering; it involves envisioning, inventing, visualizing and then creating over time. A Time magazine ad from February 16, 1942, titled The Place They Do Imagineering shows an Alcoa ad that describes imagineering as—letting your imagination soar, and then engineering it down to earth. In essence, when you practice imagineering you become a dream builder.   You see in your mind’s eye something that is not yet in existence, and then you make it happen. Tom Fitzgerald, a Disney Imagineer who worked on the design of Epcot, said, “If you can dream it-You can do it.” You can create the life of your dreams. Everything you do begins as a thought or visualization in your imagination. The thought “It’s time to get out of bed,” precedes getting out of bed.   As
